Created in 1971 at the same time as the town of Louvain-la-Neuve, and the fruit of a collaboration between the Université catholique de Louvain (UCL – Catholic Universit of Louvain) and the Intercommunale du Brabant wallon (IBW – Walloon Brabant Inter-Community Company), the Louvain-la-Neuve Science Park is incorporated within a complete innovation ecosystem which supports companies in their growth through multiple services: university/business science and technology partnerships, technology transfer, funds for creating spin-offs, support for innovative ideas, spaces suitable for setting up any kind of business (start-ups, spin-offs, SMEs or multi-nationals).

It brings together more than 220 companies and 5,700 highly qualified jobs over an area of 231 hectares, 30 km south of Brussels. The most represented sectors are IT (image technologies, telecoms, computer security, multimedia etc.), health (cell therapy, diagnostics, medical imaging, proton therapy), engineering (energy, speciality materials, extraction, sustainable construction, etc.), fine chemistry (nano-materials, innovative processes, etc.) and greentechs (cogeneration, environmental biotechnology, etc.).

Thanks to the presence on-site of the first Belgian francophone University, UCL, companies have access to more than 5,000 researchers, 21 research institutes and 25 technology platforms in nearly 200 laboratories.
